In this blog I am talking about controversial bollywood heroin Rekha. Her real name is Bhanurekha ganesan. She was born on 10 october 1954. His father was Gemini Ganesan, a tamil actor and his mother was pushavali, a telugu actor. Rekha's controversy started by her birth as she was born before her parents got married. Her father did not acknowledge her paternity during her childhood.Rekha has one full sister, one half brother and five half sister. Rekha quit school to start her acting career. In magazine interview she express her displeasure to her father. She was tamil by birth but she speaks english and hindi fluently.
Rekha appeared as a child actor in telugu film Rangula Ratnam. Rekha made her successful debut as heroin in kannada film Operation Jackpot Nalli in 1969. In same year she starred in hindi film "Anjana Safar". But this movie ran into censor problem for a decade due to her kissing scene with leading actor Biswajit. In her starting career many people did not like her because she looked dark and chubby so people called her ugly duckling of bollywood.
But her career took a right turn when she has worked with Amitabh Bachchan in "Do Anjane " film, which was a hit film and this pair became so popular and they gave many superhit film such as "Mr Natwarlal, mukaddar ka sikandar and controversial film Silsila.
Amitabh Bachchan and Rakha was popular controversial pair. Because of her film roles she got a glamorous heroin status but in her film "Ghar" which was released in 1978, where she did the role of rape victim and she was so appreciated by people and called her a complete actor. Not only "ghar" film but also in "khoon bhari maang" film she left a big impact of her acting on bollywood. One critic wrote that it was the best performance ever by Rekha. In 1990 her career started to down . Her few films became hit but many films were flop.But controversies did not leave her. She got married to businessman Mukesh Aggarwal but after some years he got hanged himself.
In 2003 she made a comeback in science fiction film "Koi Mil Gya" , she did the role of Hrithik Roshan mother. Besides of her controversies she was a very successful actor who gave many hit films in her career and won many awards.She has won filfare award for her film "khoon bhari maang". In 2011 Rediff listed her 9th most successful female bollywood actor of all time.She was referred to as reigning queen of Indian cinema in iifa award held in singapore, where she was given the "outstanding contribution to Indian cinema" award referred to as lifetime achievement award.
