Dev Anand
Dev Anand was one of the great actor of Indian cinema. He was born on 26 september 1923 in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.Dev Anand is regarded as one of the most influential actor of Indian cinema.The government of Indian honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 and dadasaheb Phalke award on 2001 for the contribution to Indian cinema.He did his schooling from sacred Heart school and went to college Dharamshala before going to Lahore to study. Later he completed BA degree in English Literature from government college,Lahore.Before entering in Bollywood he had to join military for surviving.
He worked in 'Ziddi' movie in 1948.He gave many hit movies in his career.He was known for his romantic image.Within few years he started his production comapany 'Navketan' with his brothers. In 1951 he produce the movie 'Baazi' and also act lead role in these movie.Guru Dutt was the director of these movie.'Baazi' was a hit movie.Then he gave many hit movies like 'Andhiya', 'Taxi Driver', 'House no 44','Nau do gyarah','Paying guest' etc.He had unique style of acting.People tried to imitate his style.In the sixties, he aquired a romantic image with the film Manzil,Tere ghar k samne.
His first colour film 'Guide' with Waheeda Rehaman was based on the novel of R.K Narayan. Guide was most successful movie of his career.He won national film award for Guide.
Dev Anand also directed the movie. He direct 'Hare Krishna hare Ram' movie.His find Zeenat Aman who played the mini skirt sporting, smoking girl became an overnight sensation. Dev Anand has worked with many female actors but he and Wahida rehman was a superhit couple in movies.People loved his pair with Wahida Rehman very much. During the making of movie 'Taxi Driver' he felt in love with his co-actress Kalpana Kartik and he proposed her for marriage. in 1954 he married to Kalpana Kartik.The couple had a son Suniel Anand and a daughter Devina.In 1969 he was a member of jury at 6th moscow international film festival.
Dev Anand was a evergreen star of Indian cinema.His career is 65 years long.He worked in 114 hindi movies.Because of his romantic image girls were mad for him. Government banned him for wearing black suit because when he wear black suit many girls went unconscious by looking at him in black suit.Dev Anand has directed 19 movies and produced 35 movies.Dev Anand films are well known for their songs.He has worked with many great music directors like Sachin dev burman and his son RD burman, Mohammad rafi.Dev Anand died in his room at 'The Washington mayfair Hotel' in London.His last movie was Chargesheet.
