Raj Kapoor
Raj Kapoor was one of the most influential actor and filmmaker of Indian cinema. He was born on 14 December 1924.He was known as "the greatest showman of Indian cinema".His full name is Ranbir Raj Kapoor.He is son of Great actor Prithvi Raj Kapoor.He was the eldest among his siblings.He had two brothers Shashi Kapoor and shammi Kapoor and had one sister Urmila Sayal.But his father Prithvi Raj Kapoor participated in several theater companies so Prithvi Raj kapoor moved city to city in his career so Raj kapoor attended different schools in different cities like Dehradun, Kolkata and mumbai. Raj Kapoor did his initial schooling from Colonel Brown Cambridge school in Dehradun.In 1935, at the age of 10, he appeared in film for first time "inquilab".He continued to work in small and big films.After working in so many movie he got his first big break as a lead role in "Neel Kamal" movie.In 1948 he made his own studio "R.K films" and became the youngest director of his time making his directorial debut with "aag" movie.Andaaz is his first major success as an actor. He had his first success as producer and director in "Barsaat".He went on to produce several hit films made under his R.K film including Awara, shree 420,Chori Chori , jagte raho etc.
He has given many hit songs like 'mera joota hai japani','jeena yahan marna yahan','Awara hoon','Ramaiya vastavaiya','main hoon raju'.In 1970 he made 'mera naam joker' which took 6 years to complete.when released in 1970 it was a box office disaster and his family came into financial crisis.But later 'mera naam joker' became so famous.
Raj kapoor had a love affair with Nargees. The couple worked
together in many movies like Awara and Shree 420.But Raj kapoor was already married with Krishna Khanna and he did not want to leave his wife and children so Nargees ended their relationship and married to Sunil Dutt. Raj kapoor had three sons are Randhir Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor and Rajiv Kapoor and daughters are Reema Kapoor and Ritu Kapoor.Both daughters are stayed away from films.He had grand daughter Karishma Kapoor and kareena Kapoor. Both of them have made their big name in bollywood. He had a grand son Ranbir kapoor who is the youth icon and fashion icon of young generation.
Raj kapoor was known as the 'Greatest showman of Indian cinema'.He was not popular only in India but he was very popular in Russia and china also.He gave many evergreen hit songs.He had received many awards through out his career including 3 National film award and 11 filmfare awards.The government of India honoured him with Padma Bhushan awars in 1971.His performance in Awara was ranked as top of the 10 greatest performance of all time by Time magazines.When he was 63 he was sufffering from Asthama.In 1988 when he became very ill while receiving Dada saheb Phalke award from President of India ,he collapsed at the event and he was taken to All India Institute of Medical Science for treatment.On june 2 1988 he died.He was working on movie Henna.Later it was completed by his sons Randhir kapoor and rishi Kapoor which was released in 1991.
