Dilip Kumar
Dilip kumar is one of the greatest actor of Indian cinema. His real name is Muhammad Yusuf Khan. He was born on 11 December 1922 in Peshawar.He was schooled at Barnes school ,deolali. In the 1930's his family relocated to Bombay. In the 1940 he left for Pune Because of his good knowledge of good written and spoken English, he got a job in Canteen. He was known as Tragedy King because of his role in movies.He debuted as an actor in film 'Jwar Bhata' in 1944 produced by Bombay Talkies.He want to change his name from Muhammad Yusuf Khan to another name because he did not want that his father got to know that he is doing acting in movies so he changed his name from Muhammad Yusuf Khan to Dilip Kumar.
Dilip kumar first film was 'jwar Bhata' went unnoticed but people praise his acting.After many unsuccessful movies, it was Jugnu film which was his first hit movie at Box office.He has also worked with Raj Kapoor and Nargis in Andaaz movie.Dilip kumar went on to have success in 1950's with playing a leading role in romantic movies like 'Jogan','babul','tarana','Hulchul'.He was known as Tragedy king because in many movies he did many role in which he was beaten by Villian,his girlfriend left him.So people called him 'Tragedy king'.Even he was also frustrated of his Tragedy role in movies.
In 1960 he played a lead role in 'Mughal-e-Azam' movie. Mughal-e-Azam was a landmark movie of Indian cinema.It is a big budget historical film.And that time it was the highest grossing movie at box office.In these movie Dilip kumar played a role of Prince salim who revolts against his father Akbar (played by PrithviRaj kapoor) who falls in love with courtesan.Dilip Kumar was also offered by hollywood but he declined to work in hollywood. Dilip Kumar had a love affair with his co-actress Madhubala. It has been a most popular love affair of Indian cinema.
But Madhubala's father did not want that Madhubala to marry with Dilip Kumar.In 1966 he married to Saira Banu who is 22 years younger than him .On his marriage,he was 44 yeas old and his wife was 22 years old.
Dilip Kumar is considered as one of the Greatest actor of Indian cinema.He holds the Guinness book of the world record for winning maximum number of awards.He won 8 filmfare award which was a record.He was honoured with filmfare lifetime achievement award in 1993.In 1991 Government of Indian honoured Dilip Kumar with Padma Bhushan in 1991.He got the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1994 . And Government honoured him with Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
