Jeetendra was born on 7 April 1942 in Amritsar of Punjab.His real name is Ravi Kapoor.His father's name is Amarnath and his mother's name is Krishna Kapoor.His family moved to Mumbai where his family was engaged in business of jewellery.He studied at St. Sebastian's Goan High School in Girgaum with his friend Rajesh Khanna and then studied at Siddhartha college.He is famous for his dancing.While supplying jewellery to V.Shantaram for movies , he was cast for extras role.He was called for audition but he has not even done drama in school or college so he went to his friend Rajesh Khanna. Rajesh Khanna made him practice for audition and Jeetendra somehow did his dialog and passed.
In 1964 Jeetendra got his first major break in ''Geet gaya Patharo ne' in V.shantaram's film.And while shooting he used to slur and lisp while telling his dialogues.But V.Shantaram worked night and day and removed his lisp and taught him to deliver his dialog and the film 'Geet Gaya Patharo ne' created history.The Tee shirt and his white shoes became his trademark.His vigoroud dancing in films won him the ephithet -'Jumping Jack of Bollywood'.And his next movie 'Farz' that served as a stepping stone to success.'Farz' was a action film based on james bond film. Farz song were very hit.Then he did Caravan and Humjoli films . These movie made Jeetendra popular for his dancing.
Jeetendra has done nearly 200 films as a lead role. In his career he was frequently paired with ShriDevi and Jaya Parda.He did 'Sanjog','aulad','Majaal','Himmatwala'.Besides his frequent pairing with ShriDevi and jaya Parda during 80's , Jeetendra popular co-star were Reena Roy, Neetu Singh,Hema malini and Rekha.If we look at his personal life Jeetendra and Hema Malini made a lot of headlines and everyone thought that two would marry but later Hema Malini married to Dharmendra and jeetendra married to Shobha Kapoor. Jeetendra had met his wife when she was only 14 .She completed school and went to college and was employed as air hostress with British airways.
When Jeetendra was struggling to establish himself as an actor, he was in a relationship with Shobha. Then Jeetendra got married to Shobha Kapoor on 31 october 1974. The couple have two children. Their daughter Ekta kapoor runs balaji telefims and his son Tushar kapoor is also an actor.Jeetendra is a chairman of Balaji Telefilms, balaji Motion picture and ALT entertainment.He has won many awards for his performances. He received a filmfare lifetime achievement award in 2003 and screen lifetime achievement award in 2005.And he was honoured with 'Legend of Indian cinema' award at Atlanta cinema.
