Bollywood is a collection of great movies and Mughal-e Azam is one of the greatest movie ever of Bollywood. Mughal-e Azam is a epic historical drama film. These movie is directed by K.Asif and produced by Shapoorji pallonji. Dilip Kumar , PrithviRaj kapoor and Madhubala were main actors of Mughal-e -azam movie. PrithviRaj Kapoor played the role of Akbar (Salim's father). Dilip Kumar played the role of Prince Salim who fall in love with Anarkali which played by Madhubala. All the actors are greatly appreciated by people. Mughal-e-Azam had the widest release of any Indian film up to that time.Mughal-e Azam was released on 5 August 1960 and broke all box office record and became the highest grossing movie of Indian cinema.
The development of Mughal-e-Azam began in 1944 but it always delayed because of financial problem.Mughal-e-Azam was very expansive movie that time so director faced many problems to make these movie.Mughal-e-Azam was the first black and white film to be digitally colored.These film is widely considered to be a milestone of Indian cinema.The Urdu dramatist Imtiaz Ali Taj wrote the story about the love affair of Prince Salim and Anarkali in 1922.Ardeshir Irani made the silent film Anarkali in 1928 and this movie inspired director K.Asif to make the film Mughal-e-Azam.Mughal-e-Azam is based on historical drama.The shooting of Mughal-e-Azam started in 1946 in Bombay talkies studio.
Due to financial problem this project faced many hurdles who forced it to temporarily abandonment.Because of partition between India and Pakistan it's producer Shiraz Ali migrated to Pakistan and left director K.Asif without financier.In 1950 Shapoori Pallonji agreed to produced the movie.Mughal-e-Azam movie is about the love affair between Prince Salim and Anarkali and Prince Salim's father Akbar was against him to marry Anarkali. Director K.Asif initially rejected Dilip Kumar to play the role of Prince salim but accepted the role upon the insistence of producer.The role of Anarkali first offered to Suraiya but later went to Madhubala.And PrithviRaj Kapoor was the first choice of Director for role of Akbar.
As Mughal-e-Azam was the landmark movie of Indian cinema.It also gave a hit song 'Pyar kia to Darna kya'. which was shot on Mohan studios on a set built as a replica of sheesh Mahal in the Lahore fort.The most attractive thing of this movie was it's costumes.It's costume related to Mughal Empire.The footwear was ordered from Agra and jewellery was made by goldsmith in Hyderabad and crowns were designed in kohlapur.The battle sequence between Akbar and Prince Salim reportedly featured 2000 camels, 400 horses and 8000 troops.Music is composed by Naushad and lyrics written by Shakeel badayuni. As Mughal-e-azam is the landmark movie of Indian cinema so it has won many awards including one national award and three filmfare awards.
